Getting the Most From the Weekly Review Template

A weekly review is the habit that makes every other habit work. Thirty minutes to look back — what went well, what slipped, what matters next week — turns a blur of busy days into deliberate progress. It is the single highest-leverage entry in any journal.

Tips & common pitfalls

  • Start with wins. Naming what went well first keeps the review honest instead of a list of failures.
  • Ask “what did I learn?” not just “what did I do.” The lesson is the part that compounds.
  • Pick no more than three priorities for next week. A focused few beat a wish-list you can’t finish.
  • Do it the same time each week — Friday afternoon or Sunday evening — so it becomes automatic.

Example entry

Wins: shipped the audit; finally booked the dentist.
Slipped: skipped the gym twice; inbox out of control.
Learned: I focus best before 10am — protect that window.
Next week’s 3: (1) deploy v2 (2) two gym sessions (3) inbox to zero Friday.
