Getting the Most From the Goal Setting & Review Template
A goal-setting journal keeps your goals alive instead of fossilising in an app you never open. Writing them down, breaking them into the next concrete step, and checking in regularly is what separates goals you achieve from resolutions you forget by February.
Tips & common pitfalls
- Define the next action, not just the outcome. “Outline chapter one” is doable today; “write a book” is not.
- Write down why each goal matters. On the days motivation dips, the reason is what carries you.
- Review weekly and be willing to drop goals that no longer fit. A shorter list you pursue beats a long one you avoid.
- Track the process, not only the finish line — “wrote three days this week” is progress before the goal is done.
Example entry
Goal: run a 10k by June.
Why: prove to myself I can stick to something.
This week: three 20-minute runs.
Done: 2 of 3 (rain on Thursday).
Next: add five minutes to the Saturday run.
