Penzu has been a simple private diary on the web for a long time, and people who have used it for a decade like exactly that: a blank page, reminder emails, and a cheap Pro plan. Its apps are still live, and the Android app was updated in 2026.
The complaints are about what happens to the words. In 2026 people reported entries losing their last lines, and say that recovering deleted entries or restoring an old version needs a paid plan. Export is PDF only, and only on Pro, so there is no open format to take elsewhere. Locking with encryption is paid too, and the pricing page does not say how that encryption works.
